Quick Q and A!

What are your favorite emojis?

I have a complicated relationship with emojis, which is ridiculous because they are tiny cartoon faces and symbols, not actual emotional support staff.
The ones I hate most are 👍 and 🙂
The little smiley one annoys me because what does it actually mean? Are you happy? Are you pretending to be happy? Are you being polite? Are you quietly furious but adding a tiny smile so nobody can accuse you of being rude? It feels like the emoji equivalent of someone saying “fine” when absolutely nothing is fine.
And then there’s 👍
I know some people use it innocently. I understand that. I really do. But to me, the thumbs up feels dismissive. Like someone has just mentally shut the door in my face but added a cartoon thumb so it looks friendly. Maybe that one reminds me of my ex, which would explain a lot. Amazing how one tiny yellow hand can carry years of emotional admin.
The emojis I actually like are much more useful.

😆is my most accurate one. It covers amusement, disbelief, mild chaos, and “if I don’t laugh I may become a news headline.”
😬 is for awkward moments, bad decisions, uncomfortable truths, and the general human experience.
🤦‍♀️is essential. Honestly, I use this so much it should probably be on my birth certificate.
💙 is my soft one. Simple, warm, not too dramatic.
🤬is for when words fail, or when they don’t fail but I probably shouldn’t use all of them in public.
🍾is for tiny wins, big wins, imaginary wins, and moments where life deserves a little celebration even if nothing is technically sorted yet.
✈️ is for travel, freedom, airports, new places, and the part of me that is always mentally packing a bag.
👻 is because I love ghostly things, spooky places, and the possibility that old buildings are absolutely keeping secrets.
And 🙏is my “please let this work out” emoji. Not necessarily religious. More like sending a desperate little message to the universe while trying to look calm.
So my favourite emojis are basically a personality test: laughing through chaos, swearing when required, planning an escape route, chasing ghosts, and hoping for the best.
Which, to be fair, is pretty accurate.
