Blogging Veteran Tips….

Calling all seasoned WordPress bloggers.

I’m still fairly new around here, and while I’m enjoying it a lot, I’d love to hear from people who’ve been doing this longer than five minutes and actually know what they’re doing.

What helped you grow your blog? What brought real readers in? Do you post consistently, promote on social media, join blogging communities, use tags properly, pray to the algorithm, or all of the above?

I’m genuinely curious what has worked for other people, and what you wish you’d known when you started.

Any practical tips or honest advice would be very welcome.

I’ve been doing this blogging lark for some years now … and I STILL don’t know how to grow my readership. One of my other blogs, Once Upon a Time in The ’70s gets reasonable daily hits of a couple hundred plus- even on days I / we don’t post. So that’s cool. People are searching for ‘The 70s’ or the like, and stop by a while.
My music blog, sadly neglected this past 9 months or so, is rather niche, so readers with similar musical tastes come by regularly. (Loud Horizon. Underplayed Underground music from the ’60s & ’70s)

But THIS blog – my ‘author’ blog? There are several kind readers who turn up every day I post. But it’s not the kind of blog that will be found by randomly scanning t’internet. I subscribe to lots of other blogs and the sort of unwritten rule of blogging is that they will reciprocate. The downside is, I spend way too much time reading and replying to comments and then can’t find the balance to come up with my own stuff.

Sio I just write nonsense. If folks read. Great. If they enjoy. Better If they smile / laugh … that’s the best.

Who cares about numbers? 😀 😉

This honestly sounds like the most accurate description of blogging I’ve seen so far, write stuff, hope people find it, and try not to spend your whole life replying to comments. Also, “who cares about numbers?” is exactly what I tell myself while checking mine far too often.
