Do you vote in political elections?
Yes, I vote in political elections.

I don’t always feel wildly inspired by the options, and I don’t pretend one vote magically fixes everything. But I still think voting matters.
Also, I’m Australian, so voting is not just a noble civic act. It is also a handy way to avoid being fined, because apparently democracy comes with admin.
For me, voting is about having a say, even a small one, in the kind of society I live in. It is easy to complain about decisions being made by other people, but if I have the chance to add my voice, I feel I should use it.
I also think about the people who fought for the right to vote, especially women. It feels wrong to treat that lightly when so many people before us were denied a voice altogether.
So yes, I vote. Not because I think politics is perfect. Far from it. I vote because silence gives away power, and because I’d rather not receive a fine in the mail for forgetting democracy was scheduled that day.
